"It's not insanity
Says Vanity Fair
In fact, it's stylish to
Raise your skirts and bob your hair"
~Thoroughly Modern Millie~
The change from the early 1900s to the "Roaring 20's" modernized all of America.
Shorter skirts, shorter hair, bell shaped hats, higher heels and lot's of make-up.
Their hair was cut into a bob. This new style was quite a shock to people in the beginning, but it wasn't long before every girl between 14 and 50 followed this new trend.
Some Hair was permed, giving it a wavy effect, while others had theirs kept perfectly sraight.
One of the first ladies to adopt this new style was, famous fahion designer, Coco Chanel.

Another major change at the time was the hat's!
The most popular hat being the "Cloche Hat."
"The cloche hat is a fitted, bell-shaped hat that was invented by milliner Caroline Reboux in 1908, became especially popular during the 1920s, and continued to be commonly seen until about 1933.[1] Cloche is the French word for, bell.
Cloche hats were usually made of felt so that they conformed to the head, and were typically designed to be worn low on the forehead, with the wearer's eyes only slightly below the brim.[1] In later years, a summer cloche might be made from sisal or straw. Cloches could also be made of beads or lace for evening wear, for cocktails, dancing or even for bridal wear."
As popular as these were, there were other hat's at the time...
As you can see here on the chart, there were so many different styles of hat's!
In those days it was unlikely that you wouldn't see too many women walk down the street, flaunting the latest style hat.
Here actress Clara Bow is wearing bandanna in her hair. Also very popluar in the 1920s.
"With the right hat, nothing else matters. "
The fashion of that time kind of makes me laugh!
