Happy Birthday Judy Garland! :)

Judy Garland was born June 10 1922 in Minnesota.
Her original name was Francis Ethel Gumm!
When Judy Garland was younger she and her sister were part of the family vaudeville routines.

When she was 12 years old Judy Garland was taken to motion picture audition and was heard singing by worker there (I can't remember what his job was) and he was completely taken with her voice. He had every one come and listen to her.

 When she was 13 she signed a contract for MGM. Her first film to play in was Pigskin Parade. Her first film to star in with Mickey Rooney was Thourough breds don't cry, and she went on to play in 8 more films with Mickey Rooney.

  

She went to school at the MGM lot along with Elizabeth Taylor and Ava Gardner and she often thought of herself as "ugly" although I personally disagree.

At age 16 Judy Garland played Dorothy Gale in the musical hit "The Wizard of Oz!"
Her co-stars were Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, Frank Morgan and Billie Burk!

  

Judy Garland eventually tired of playing the little girl, and longed to play a more adult character.
Her first more grown-up movie was For Me and my Gal, but then she was cast as Esther Smith from Meet Me in St. Louis. Judy Garland was not happy at all about this because Esther was not grown up. But after much persuading she finally agreed to play in it, and actually enjoyed herself very much and considered the Smith family was her real family.

Judy Garland went o to play in great musicals such as The Harvey Girls, In The Good ol' summertime and Easter Parade. Judy Garland only played in two non-musical movies in her whole life.
After 15 years of acting Judy Garland was fired from the MGM lot due physical problems..
But Judy Garland went on to have performances and she also had several television appearances.
She also played in a drama/musical called A Star is Born.

Judy Garland died June 22 1969 when she was only 47 years old.

• Judy Garland met her husband and director Vincete Minelli while filming Meet Me in St. Louis. At first she did not like him at all.
• Judy Garland was 4' 11½"
• She sang for Clark Gable on his birthday.
• Fred Astair was her role model, and she played with him in Easter Parade.
• Her daughter Liza Minelli appeared in the end of the Good ol Summertime.
• She was originally cast in both Annie Get Your Gun and Take Me Out To The Ball Game.
• Danced with both Fred astaire and Gene Kelly.
• James Mason delivered her eulogy at her funeral.
• She was voted the 23rd Greatest Movie Star of all time by Entertainment Weekly.

Judy Garland is surely one of my favorite people of all time!
